  3. Desire Gorham, daughter of James Gorham (of Barnstable) and Hannah Huckins, on 15 December 1715 at Barnstable, Barnstable Co, MA; 2nd m. for Desire, 3rd m. for Daniel, he her widower.
  4. Elizabeth Taylor, daughter of John Taylor and Sarah Matthews, ; 4th m. for Daniel, she his widow.2

Added by E. C. Nickerson about this Gr. Grandfather: He lived with wife Mary in Eastham till after their 2nd child was born. In 1697 she inherited 1/2 of two farms at Monomoit, located at Tom's Neck, so they moved there. His last four children were by wife Sarah Smith. He served under Captain John Gorham in the 1690 expedition to Canada, and received for it a share of land at Dunbarton, NH in 1735. He was selectman 3 years, contable several years, and held other positions. He was styled Sergeant as early as 1710. He was interested in the farm at Tom's Neck, the Common Lands, and the Great Beach./ECN/

Biography

Daniel Hamilton was born circa 1671, the son of Thomas Hamilton and Lydia Wing of Newport Rhode Island[1]

Circa 1690 he married Mary Smith, the daughter of Samuel Smith and Mary Hopkins[2] [3] [4] [1] [5], and had children, including:

Lydia Hamilton, who married Jeremiah Eldridge[6] [5] Mary Hamilton, who married Judah Mayo[7] [5] Samuel Hamilton, who married Bethia Stewart and Mary Ellis[5] Daniel Hamilton, who married Abigail and then married Sarah Lewis[5] Sarah 'Saray' Hamilton, who married Theodore Harding Elizabeth Hamilton, who married Seth Taylor Thankful Hamilton, Joseph Hamilton, Grace Hamilton, who was born and died in 1694[3] [5] Thomas Hamilton, born 1695[3], who married Rebecca Mayo[5] On August 5, 1708, he may have married Sarah (Smith) Snow, widow of Joseph Snow; and on 15 December 1715 he married Desire (Gorham) Springer, widow of Edward Springer who may have been the daughter of James Gorham and Hannah Huckins[5] . No more children are noted from these marriages.

Daniel Hamilton died December 8, 1738 in his 69th year[8].

The will of Daniel Hamilton of Chatham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, dated 20 January 1735/36 and proved 22 March 1738/39, mentioned his wife; his daughters, Saray (sic Sarah) Harding, wife of Theodore Harding; Elizabeth, wife of Seth Taylor; Thankful Hamilton; and Mary, wife of Judah May; the children of daughter Lydia late wife of Jeremiah Eldridge; sons Daniel, Thomas, Samuel and Joseph; the administrator was Thomas Doane.
