DANIEL M. WONDERS
BEDFORD, Feb. 15 -- Daniel M. Wonders, a veteran of the Civil War, is dead at the home of his son, Harry Wonders, near Bedford, at the age of 82 years. Mr. Wonders was born in this county and when a young man attended the seminary at Rainsburg, engaging in teaching several years before the beginning of the Civil War. Early in 1862 he enlisted in Company H, Fifty-fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. In September, 1864, he was promoted to the rank of quartermaster sergeant and served in that capacity until his discharge on August 30, 1865. After returning home from war, he was employed by the Government in work connected with distilleries, but in a few years time took up his previous profession of teaching school and was one of Bedford County's best instructors. A few years ago he retired form active duties and spent his days among his children. His wife preceded him in death a number of years ago. He is survived by the following children: W. C., Russell and Harry Wonders and Mrs. Frank Miller, of Napier Township; Mrs. Harry Davis, of Claysburg; Mrs. William Kinzey, of Johnstown, a sister, Mrs. John Emerick, of Buffalo Mills, and a number of grandchildren.
