T.H. Stuart Is Called By Death Here This Morn
Funeral Services Will Be Held Tomorrow At Family Home On More Street
Thomas Henry Stuart, one of the oldest citizens of Fordyce, and one of the few Confederate veterans in Dallas county, passed away at his home at 8:30 o'clock this morning, after a lingering illness that had kept him confined to an invalid's chair for many months.
He is survived by his wife and six children, Mrs. N.E. Smith of Wilton, Mrs. R.J. Hays of Pine Bluff, W.H. Stuart of Quitman, Miss., John Stuart, Shreveport, La., Tom D. Stuart of Pine Bluff, and Miss Alice Stuart of Fordyce.
Mr. Stuart was born December 6, 1847, near Greenville, Miss., and came to Arkansas at the age of three years, when his parents settled in Johnsville, Bradley county. He joined the Baptist church at the age of 14 years, and as long as his health permitted he was an active and devoted member of this church. He served in the Confederate Army the last two years of the war, and was proud of his record and service to his county.
He was married to Miss Amanda Thomas, December 31, 1868. He came to Fordyce in 1895 and had lived here since, the daughter, Miss Alice Stuart, caring tenderly and faithfully for the mother and father during their delicate health and old age.
The funeral service for Mr. Stuart will be held at the family home at 9:00 o'clock tomorrow (Friday) afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. W. I. Eleldge.
