~• It is clear that Sgt. R. Finney married at least twice; more likely, three times.When he left the military for good and briefly entered the Home for Disabled Veterans in 1893, he names his next of kin as his son, Robert Jr. as next of kin.
However, on his pension form a Mary (E.?) Finney is named (Aug. 1922)..

Personal life

• By 1880 his first wife was remarried and living in Baltimore with their son Robert John (called John in the census) and her new husband.
• There are references to both a Mary E. and a Mary J. (maiden name unknown). The last wife outlived him................................
• There is a memorial to his son Robert Jr. in the National cemetery in Little Rock but none for Sgt. Finney. This is because he died in Baltimore
  

A Mary E. Finney did have a son from a prior marriage named Clarence Johnson with whom she lived as a widow (1930).
