Sgt. Zeno Tharp, (USA)

Zeno Tharp served in the Union Army during the American Civil War in Company A, 34th Regiment, Iowa Infantry. He enlisted at the age of 35 on 9 Aug 1862 with the rank of 5th Corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant sometime during his service. He was discharged due to disability on 26 March 1863 at St. Louis, MO. In the Kansas, Enrollment of Civil War Veterans, 1889 entry on Ancestry.com for Zeno Tharp lists "chronic inflammation of liver and bowels." It is not clear if this is his current condition or the reason for his discharge, but I suspect it is the latter.

May 5, 1872, Zeno Tharp settled in Troy Township, Reno County, KS, USA. He was a member of the local Grand Army of the Republic chapter.
