GEDCOM Note

This line retains the HIX spelling to the present day. Simeon was born in Rehoboth, MA and moved to Richmond, NH sometime around 1776-7, having already served in a MA unit of the Revolutionary War. (Pension file) Ref: Bassett, "History of Richmond, NH", p. 411. He is not listed as a Head of Household original settler (p. 412) or as a signer of the "Association Test" in Aug 1776, (p. 61-2) as probably too young. Bassett's"History of Richmond" gives the following listing of his Revolutionary War service form that town's records. 1) June 29, 1777 - He is listed as a Private on the roll of "Captain Oliver Capron's Company, Col. Samuel Ashley's Regiment of Militia which marched to the Relief of Ticonderoga 1777". (original at Concord, NH - copied Bassett, p.66) The company was mustered in at Winchester, NH 6/29/1777 - marched 120 miles to Ticonderoga and found the fort evacuated and the Americans in retreat, so turned around and marched home again. 2)Re-enlisted as a Private in "Capt Samuel Wright's Company, Col. Nichols Regiment, Gen. Stark's Brigade of Militia." Marched from Winchester NH to join Northern Continental Army at Bennington, VT July 23, 1777. Fought at the Battle of Bennington (defeated Gen. Bourgoyne) Aug 16, 1777 and at the first battle of Stillwater (Saratoga) Sept 19, 1777. Honorably discharged Sept 24, 1777. (Bassett, pps. 67-8). He was the last living survivor of the Battle of Bennington. He evidently later served in a VT unit. His Revolutionary War Pension File is #S16152. He married Molly Barney of Richmond on May 3, 1778. After leaving Richmond, he moved briefly to Guilford, Vt and then on to Arlington, and then Sunderland, Bennington Co, Vt -the area he had seen during his Revolutionary War service. 1790 Census Index - listed as resident of Sunderland, Bennington Co., VT, p 23 printed version - 1 male over 16, 4 males under 16, 3 females (all ages). 1800 Census - VT, Bennington, Sunderland, p. ? - 11201-21010 He is also listed in Sunderland 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850. He died age 99 in Arlington, Vt and is buried in South End Cemetery, Sunderland, VT.
