He married bef. 9 Nov 1670 Margaret Barstow Gates (1650-1707) of Cambridge, MA eschewing a previous engagement still pending at that time, res. Thos. Hull estate, Muddy River, ch. mem. in Cambridge. He died intestate in the part of Boston, MA, called Muddy River, now Brookline, 26 Aug. 1692.

Simon was a soldier in King Philip's War. In 1735, his son, Jonathan Gates, was granted land in Narragansett Township on account of his father's service in the war (The Register, vol. 16, p. 145, April 1862); afterward resides in Lancaster, Cambridge and Boston.

Simon Gates was sued 9 Nov. 1670 by John Woods of Marlborough, MA, for breaking a marriage contract with his daughter, Frances. He inherited his father's estate at Cambridge, MA. [4]
