Biography

James Stewart was born about 1680 in Scotland. He is the son of Robert Stewart and Jannette Forsythe. <ref>A source for this information is needed.</ref> He died on 20 Sep 1773 and was buried at Chandler Hill Cemetery, Colrain, Franklin County Massachusetts, British Colonial America. He may have been related to "Charter John" Stewart of Londonderry,NH, but this is not at all certain. James came to Colrain,MA in 1742, whenhe and his son-in-law Thomas McGee bought a settling lot in the firstdivision, James taking the northern half, and McGee the southern half. Children: Ann Stewart McGee, James Stewart Jr, Phebe Stewart Workman, and Alexander Stewart.
