Laurence Crawford was born circa 1506. He was the son of Robert Crawford and Margaret Semple. He married Helen Campbell, daughter of Hugh Campbell and Isabel Wallace. He died on 4 June 1547. He was also known as Laurence Crawfurd.. 6 sons, 2 daughters, including (1) Thomas Crawfurd d. 1603 (2) Hugh Crawfurd b. c 1526, d. 1576.

Crawford of Kilbirnie

X. Robert Crawfurd of Kilbirnie and Crawfurd-John. He married Margaret, daughter of Semple of Eliotstoun, and died in 1513, and was succeeded by the only son of the marriage,

XI. Laurence Crawfurd of Kilbirnie. He exchanged the land of Crawfurd-John, with Sir James Hamilton of Fynart, for the lands of Drumry, in 1528. He married Helen, daughter, of Sir Hugh Campbell of Loudoun, by whom he had six sons and two daughters; of the sons, Thomas, the sixth, was ancestor of the Crawfurds of Jordan-hill. He died in 1547, and was succeeded by his eldest son,

XII. Hugh Crawfurd of Kilbirnie, who fought in the battle of Langside, May 13th 1568, on the side of Queen Mary. He married 1st Margaret, daughter of Colquhoun of Luss, by whom he had a son who succeeded him; 2dly, Elisabeth, daughter of Barclay of Ladyland,by whom he had a son and three daughters He died in 1576, and was succeeded by his son of the first marriage.

Sir Lawrence of the "Illustrious" family of Crawford, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland, married Helen, daughter of Sir Hugh Campbell of Loundon, Ancestor of the earls of Loudon. On April 5, 1529, he exchanged Crawford-John Lands with Sir James Hamilton for lands in Drumry, Dumbarton. This progenitor of the viscounts of Garnock (merged in the earldom of Crawford in 1749) and immediate ancestor of the Crawfords of Jordanville, Renfrewshire.
