Nicholas Griffin, Esq., de jure 8th Lord Latimer, younger son of Nicholas Griffin of East Carlton, Northamptonshire and Margaret Pilkington, was born 5 June 1426 at Brixworth, Northamptonshire, England,[1][2] and was baptized at the church there that same day.[3]

Nicholas was heir to his older brother, John Griffin,[1][2] who died without issue 1 February 1444/5.[3] In 1645, he was also heir to his uncle, John Griffin, Esq.,[2] de jure 7th Lord Latimer.[1]

Titles: Sheriff of Northamptonshire 1452-1453, 1456-1457, and 1473-1474.[1][2] Commissioner on various Northamptonshire commissions and a justice of the peace.[3]

Lands: Braybrook, Chipping Warden and Little Bowden, Northamptonshire;[2] and Gumley, Leicestershire.[1]

Nicholas married Katherine Curzon (or Curson), daughter of Richard Curzon, Esq.,[3] and Isabel, Widow of John Goddard,[2] before 26 August 1450, as his second wife.[1] They had three sons and two daughters:

  1. John,[2] de jure 9th Lord Latimer,[1] was aged 28 or more on his father's death, died 26 September 1485, married Emmote Wheathill of Calais[3]
  2. Richard[1][2]
  3. Edward,[1][2] married ____ Leigh and had issue[4]
  4. Isabel, wife of Thomas Neville, Esq.,[1][2] with whom she had nine children; Isabel left a will dated 18 January 1513/4[5]
  5. Katherine, wife of John Bellers, Esq., and of Sir John Digby[1][2]

Nicholas' wife, Katherine, was living 1 July 1465.[1][2]

Nicholas married _____ Ros/Rosse,[2][3] daughter of ____ Rosse of Sussex, as his second wife.[1] No further information.

He married third, before 2 October 1471, Marine (or Mary) Bellers, widow of Thomas Greene, Knt., and daughter of John Bellers, Esq.[1][2][3] and Elizabeth Sutton.[6] They had no issue[1][2][6][7]

Nicholas Griffin died on 6 June 1482,[1][2][6] aged 56 years.[3] His widow, Marine, died 10 September 1489.[1][2][6]
