  • Sir Richard Philipps, 2nd Bt. was born circa 1594.2 He was the son of Sir John Philipps, 1st Bt. and Anne Perrot.1 He married Elizabeth Dryden, daughter of Sir Erasmus Dryden, 1st Bt. and Frances Wilkes, in 1613.2 He married Catherine Oxenbridge, daughter of Daniel Oxenbridge and Katherine Harby, on 14 December 1642.2 He died circa 1648.1

  • Richard Phillips was born circa 1595.1 He married Elizabeth Dryden, daughter of Erasmus Dryden and Frances Wilkes, circa 1622.1 Richard Phillips died on 7 August 1648.1

  • Sir John Philipps, 1st Baronet (died 27 March 1629) was a Welsh landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1601.
  • Philipps was the son of Morgan Philipps of Picton and his wife Elizabeth Fletcher, daughter of Richard Fletcher of Bangor, Caernarvonshire. He was registrar of the diocese of Bangor. In 1585 he succeeded to the estate of Picton Castle which had passed to his father from William Philipps who was MP for Pembrokeshire in 1559. He spent much of his life involved in property disputes. He was High Sheriff of Pembrokeshire in 1597.[1]
  • In 1601, Philipps was elected Member of Parliament for Pembrokeshire. He was appointed a J.P on 13 April 1603. In 1611 he was High Sheriff of Pembrokeshire again.[2] He was created a baronet on 9 November 1621.[3] He was High Sheriff of Carmarthenshire for 1622–23.[1]
  • Philipps died in 1629 and was buried at Slebech.[1]
  • Philipps married firstly Anne Perrot daughter of Sir John Perrot, and half-sister of Sir Thomas Perrot. He married secondly Margaret Dennys, daughter of Sir Thomas Dennys of Bicton, Devon. He was succeeded in the baronetcy by his son Richard.[3]

  • Philipps made his will on 10 Jan. and died 27 Mar. 1629. He was buried at Slebech as he had requested. The Clog y fran lands with the ‘growing grain, oxen, kine, bulls and pigs’ were left to the widow, while the Pembrokeshire properties passed to the eldest son and executor, Richard, who proved the will 11 June 1629. Two unmarried daughters received £500 each and provision for their wedding clothes, and another daughter, Elizabeth, who was already married ‘and I am given to understand in Ireland’—in fact she was married to Edward Medhope, clerk of the House of Commons in Ireland—received £250. Philipps left £12 to St. David’s cathedral, and small bequests to his servants. The overseers of the will included his sons-in-law, Sir James Hamilton, and Sir Francis Annesley.5

    • Lieut.-Gen. RICHARD PHILIPPS, governor of Nova Scotia, 2nd son of Richard Philipps by Frances Noel, his wife, had been employed, when a young man, to disperse the manifestos of the Prince of Orange among the king's troope encamped at Haunslow, for which service he received no other recompense than a captain's commission. He was present at the battle of the Boyne in 1690. In 1717 he obtained the command of the 40th regt. of foot, which had been almost entirely raised by him. In 1720, he was appointed governor of Nova Scotia, which situation he held for ten years. His commission as lieut.-gen. is dated 18 March, 1743; and he d. in the year 1851, at the advanced age of 90 years. Gen. Philipps m. 1st, Elizabeth, dau. of Alexander Cosby, Esq. of Stradbally, Queen's co., Ireland; and 2ndly, Catherina, dau. of Sir John Statham, of Wigwell, co.
