About Smith William Coffey

"Smith Coffey, son of Thomas Coffey, was born in Albemarle County, Virginia,in 1776.
Soon thereafter he removed with his father to Wilkes County, North Carolina.
He was married, in Burke County, about 1802, to HANNAH BOONE.

Hannah Boone was born in Burke County, NC, in 1782, daughter of JESSE BOONE and SARAH McMAHAN.
She was a Great-Niece of Col. Daniel Boone.

Smith Coffey lived in Burke County after his marriage.
He died, by 1841, in what is now Caldwell County.
His wife survived him by many years and was still living in Caldwell County in 1860.
They are both buried, near Lenoir, in Caldwell County.

Smith and Hannah Coffey had seven children:
1. Squire Coffey, born about 1803. He married Ella Webb (born 1805 in Burke County). They removed to Cherokee County, NC. Children: a. Margaret Coffey, married Joseph Baker. b. Smith Coffey, born 1832, in Burke County; married (1) Elizabeth Redmond and (2) Rebecca Donner. c. Henry Coffey, born 1827, in Burke County; married Lizzie Kendall. d. Juliet Coffey.

2. Morgan Coffey, born 1805; married ElizabethDay (born 1817); removed to Cherokee County. Children: a. Hannah Coffey married Joel 1830 Thompson b. Joseph M.Coffey c. Amelia Coffey d. Mary Coffey e. Elizabeth Coffey f. Harriet Coffey g. Athan Coffey h. Leland Coffey i. Louisa Coffey j. Boone Coffey k. Josiah Coffey l. Susan Coffey

3. Leland Coffey, born 1806, in Burke County; married Myra Day (born 1812 in Burke County). Children: a.Sarah Coffey b. Isabella Coffey c. John Bunyan Coffey d. Julia Coffey e. Emma Coffey f. Cordelia Coffey g. Millie M.Coffey

4. Sarah Coffey, born in Burke County, NC, in 1807. She married William M. Puett.
