About Stephen Alexander Noe
Parents: James Henry Noe and Mary Ann Smith.
Widower of Anna Laurie "Annie" Molohon.
The Lebanon Enterprise, June 1948.
STEPHEN ALEXANDER NOE, age 83, died in his home in Lebanon at 4:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon , June 14, 1948, the victim of a heart attack he suffered about 8 o'clock Sunday evening before his death. He rallied following the stroke and showed marked improvement but on Wednesday suffered a relapse and was in a coma thereafter until the end. In poor health for some time due to general infirmities, he was confined to his residence for several weeks in the early spring. However, his condition was not regarded as serious and he later was able to make frequent visits in the downtown area only a few days before his fatal illness. As Mayor of Lebanon from 1932 until 1940, Mr. Noe gave generously of his time to the welfare of the community. He made innumerable trips to Frankfort to confer with State officials in regard to municipal projects and was successful in accomplishing many of his objectives. Mr. Noe was a native of Springfield, born December 2, 1864, a son of the late James H. and Mary Ann Smith Noe. Upon completing his education in Washington County, he went to Lebanon as a youth and for a time engaged in the furniture business with John Barr under the firm name of Barr & Noe. Not long afterwards he formed a connection with the Standard Oil Company of Kentucky and for twenty-seven years served that organization as a district representative. His territory, a large one, included many Central Kentucky counties. It was only a few years after his retirement in 1929 that he was elected Mayor of Lebanon. An ardent Republican, Mr. Noe served on various party committees and actively promoted the candidacy of many G.O.P. aspirants for public office. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Lebanon council of the Knights of Columbus. On October 9, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Annie Laurie Molohon, the ceremony having been performed at St. Augustine's Church by the late Rev. Peter DeFraine. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1938, less than two years prior to her death on May 30, 1940. The last member of his immediate family, Mr. Noe is survived by eleven of his twelve children. They are Mrs. Eunice Bryant, who made her home with her father; Mrs. E.H. Parrott of Lebanon, and Miss Emily Noe of St. Louis, Mo.; and James Noe of Louisville; Joseph Noe, Albany, N.Y.; John Noe, Brunswick, GA.; Albert Noe, Mishawaka, Ind.; Robert Noe, Lebanon; Gregory Noe, Neptune Beach, Fla., and George Noe, Alton, Illinois. One child died in infancy. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning in St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lebanon, interment following in St. Augustine Cemetery.
