(a) STJEPAN (-after 1024). After his father recognised Venetian overlordship over Dalmatia in [1000], he was sent as a hostage to Venice, where he married the Doge's daughter[81]. After the fall from power of the Orseolo family in 1024, Stjepan left Venice to find refuge in Hungary which granted him Slavonia as an appanage[82].
