Susan S. appears in the parental household on the census of 1880, which states she was 9 months old, as of 1 June 1880. Her parents resided in Oktibbeha, where they had moved from Monroe County at some point after 1870. Presumably they were already in Oktibbeha at her birth, about September 1879.

The 1890 census is missing. The census of 1900 purports to give exact month and year of birth; but she has not been found in that year.
