Thomas was in Portsmouth as early as 1647. He was a freeman 1655.

Thomas Brownell’s division of estate dated 16 Sep 1665, of Portsmouth, mentions widow Ann Brownell who is appointed executrix, sons George Eldest, Robert second, William third, Thomas fourth, all under 21; daughters Marie Hazard eldest, Sarah Freeborne second, Martha Brownell third unmarried, Ann Brownell fourth unmarried, and Susannah Brownell fifth unmarried.
