About George Brownell

George Brownell, son of Thomas Brownell (i), born 1646. died April 20, 1718. From 1699 to 1702 he was deputy to general assembly; from 1706 to 1711 inclusive was an assistant, and one of the most prominent men of the colony; appointed April, 1708, a commissioner in charge of certain vacant Narra- gansett lands.

He was a farmer and also a carpenter. His will was dated April 17, 1717, and proved May 12, 1718. His widow Susanna was the executrix. He left a house to his son Joseph, 'land at Portsmouth to son Stephen and lands at Tiverton and Little Compton to sons Joseph and Stephen.

He married, December 4, 1673, Susannah Pearce, born November 20, 1652, died December 24. 1743, daughter of Richard and Susannah (Wright) Pearce.

George Brownell, son of Thomas and Ann Brownell, born 1646; died April 20, 1718; married December 4, 1673, Susanna Pearce daughter of Richard and Susanna Wright Pearce, born 1652; died December 24, 1743, and had eight children.

He was a deputy 1699-1702; and an Assistant Deputy 1706-7-8-9-10-11. In April, 1708, he was appointed on a committee in regard to vacant lands in Narragansett.

His will, dated April 17, 1717 was proven May 12, 1718. His wife Susanna was named executrix.
He willed "to son Joseph, all housing and lands where I dwell, except lower room, and that at death of wife; to son Stephen, land in Portsmouth and all my new house building thereon, except north end of house reserved for use of my sister, Martha Dyer, and my daughters Susanna and Waite Brownell;
to sons Joseph and Stephen, land in Tiverton and Little Compton;
to son Joseph, a pair of oxen;
to son Stephen, a pair of oxen and two cows:
to daughter Susanna Brownell. fifty pounds;
to daughter Sarah Borden, thirty pounds;
to daughter Mary, wife of William Hall, thirty pounds;
to daughter Martha, wife of Samuel Forman, thirty pounds;
to daughter Waite Brownell, fifty pounds, a good feather bed, etc.;
to my sister, Martha Dyer, and daughters Susanna and Waite Brownell, use of north end of new house while unmarried;
to wife Susanna, the newest lower room in new dwelling for life, and the rest of movable estate to be at her disposal, she paying legacies."
The inventory amounted to nine hundred and sixty-one pounds, five shillings and ten pence, viz: wearing apparel, silver money, three hundred and forty-four pounds, sixteen shillings and four pence; plate, six pounds; tables, chairs, wheel, loom, weaving gear, one pound and ten shillings; carpenter's tools, etc., seven pounds; a horse, sheep, fifty pounds; two oxen, ten cows, nine two year olds, five yearlings, swine, geese, seven beds, warming pan, etc.

Verbatim Brief Extraction for: … I give to my COUSIN George Brownell of London twenty pounds to be paid him out of the rents of Ryecroft &c. I give unto my COUSIN Thomas Brownell of Portsmouth, Rhode Island in New England and to his children twenty pounds to be paid either to him himself, if he shall come over to receive the same or else to such person or persons in his behalf as he shall lawfully assign to receive the same (Not a "Will" event since it is not his will - just him being mentioned in another will.)
