biography
Susanna Clore (Klaar) was one tough lady. She immigrated with her husband Phillip Weber (Weaver) with a fairly large contingent of Germans to the Germanna Colony in 1717, embarking 12 July through London. The captain was a thief and was arrested in London. The ship sailed on, only to find that the captain had shorted the supplies. Of the 138 passengers, over 50 died of starvation, many of them children. Susanna Clore was pregnant at the time and gave birth to daughter Wilburga while in transit during that harrowing crossing. She and her husband were indentured to Governor Spotswood upon arrival. Husband Philip was never strong thereafter because of sacrificing for her during the crossing. He died around 1720, while still serviing the indenture and leaving her without substantial means in virtual frontier conditions. She soldiered on alone and remarried twice thereafter, to Jacob Crigler in 1721 at Spotsylvania County and then later, to Nicholas Jager (Yeager).
