Terrapinhead was a Cherokee man

Biography

Terrapinhead (Conrad) was the son of two Cherokees, Gunrod and his wife Onai or Ali. Very little is known about him. He was born about 1795 in the Cherokee Nation. The Moravian missionaries mentioned a man named "The Crawler," the brother of Youngwolf and Rattling Gourd. [1]

Starr does not name his wife, but says that he was the father of four children, John, Jennie, and James Terrapin and Thomas Fox Conrad. [2] "Terrapinhead" appears in the records of the Cherokee Agency in 1822 as a signer of a resolution of the Cherokee Council. [3] He and his family are listed on the 1835 Cherokee census living on Chickamauga Creek (now Georgia). The family was Removed to Indian Territory, but they are not found on the 1851 census so Terrapinhead had apparently died by then.
