Biography

Thomas was born in 1596 in England. He arrived in Jamestown January 2, 1607/08 aboard the "John Francis". He died in 1620 in Virginia.

Last Will of Sir William Berkely to Randall Holt Sr.

To all &c. Whereas &c. Now Know yee that I the said Sir Wm. Berkeley &c. give and grant unto Randall Holt sonn and Lawfull heire of Mary Baylye late of Hogg Island, sole Daughter and heyre of John Baylye of the said Island Called by the Name of Hogg Island Conteyning one Thousand twenty two Acres of Land and tenn Acres in James Island the said Land being bounded as ffolloweth vizt the said Hogg Island lyeing in James River in the County of James City and lyeing North and North East North west and South East upon James River and South & South west upon Hogg Island Creeke and the said tenn Acres lyeing in James Island adjoyneing to the Late Dwelling house of Robert Ewres? [or Evres?] Bordering East upon a Marsh Towards Goosehill North upon a green Thickett Devideing the same from the Land Lately belonging to William ffairfax East upon a nother Green Thickett with a swamp and west upon the Land Lately belonging to Jenkin Andrews, The sayd one Thousand twenty two Acres of Land being due unto him the said R: Holt, as ffolloweth vizt. 490 Acres of Land being Expressly granted to the said Mary Bayly Orpt. by Patt. bearing Date the 20th of ffebruary Anno: Reg: Iac?: (vs?) Anglie ..... Scotie 53... Anno Domini 1619 Colonie Virgin 13... by Sir George Yardley Knt. Late Governor of Virginia with this Speciall Cause and Pvis? ... that if upon due survey hereafter to be made, the said Island doe not Amount to 490 Acres, that soe Much as wanteth shall be Supplyed to the said Mary Bayly in some other Place And that the said Island doe Conteyne above 490 Acres that the said Mary doe Purchase the Surplusage from the Company with said Surplusage being by a Punctuall survey found to bee 532 Acres of Land According to the intent of the said Patent was Adjudged to belong to the said Randall Holt by order of Court bearing Date the 15th of October 1640 and is Due by Transportation of Eleven persons into the Colony by the said John Bayly in the Shipp William and Thomas August the 24th 1618 and the said tenn Acres in James Island being due unto the said Randall Holt by vertue of the aforesaid Patent to Mary Bayly his Mother forty Acres being due uppon the last servant in the Certificate and the 322 Acres being due for the Transportation of seven persons into the Colony which the other forty acres there remayne still due unto the said Holt 12 Acres of Land all whose Names are in the records Mentioned under this Patent To have &c. which Payment is to be made seven Yeares after the first grant or seating thereof Dated the 6th of August 1650.

Please note the conflicting dates of 1620 and 1621. If the ship left Sept 1620, it would have had to have landed Jan 1621, 
yet so many documents have the ship listed as arriving in the colonies in January of 1620. The Supply was the companion ship to the Mayflower. It left three weeks late from Bristol, England and found it's way to Barclay, Virginia on January 29, 1620/1 RECORDS OF THE VIRGINIA COMPANY CLIV. SIR George Yeardley. Certificate to the Council and Company of Virginia of the arrival of Planters at Barklay January 29, 1620/21 Smyth of Nibley Papers, Smith 34 Document in New York Public Library. List of Records No.228 [SEAL] These are to certifie the right Honble Right worshipfull, and others of the Counsell and Comany for this first Southern Colony of Virginia, that there arrived at Barklay in the same country, for the account of that Society, and the Plantation fothe said hundred, upon the 29th of January 1620, these fifty persons underwritten.
