In 1776 the Tryon County Militia elected by Halifax Convention William Graham, Colonel; Thomas Beatty, Lt. Colonel; Andrew Hampton, 1st Major; Jacob Costner, 2nd Major. C.R. 10-532. Served Sep 09, 1775 - 1779.
Thomas Beatty was the son of John Beatty and Elizabeth (Unknown). His other siblings were Able, Mary, Charles and John Jr.
Thomas married Mary Margaret Abernathy. Mary Margaret was born about 1725 of unknown parentage.

Thomas and his family lived in Tryon County, North Carolina.
On 5 October 1774, John Bradley bought 280 acres of land 'in the forks of Potts Creek' from Thomas Beatty and Hugh Beaty of Rowan County, North Carolina and Robert Armstrong of Tryon County, North Carolina, executors of Estate of Francis Beaty, late of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, for 50 Pounds Proclamation money. This land joined the lands of Daniel Warleigh and (Unknown) Sherrill.
The different grants to the Beattys approximate three thousand acres. Thomas Beatty to Alfred M. Burton; Alfred Burton settled above the ford, the old John Beatty house constituting one wing of the residence he erected. After Judge Burton's death his homestead was purchased by Col. John H. Wheeler, the genial historian. Colonel Wheeler filled the office of State Treasurer and many position of trust, but is best known for his great work, "Wheeler's History of North Carolina." This he complied at Beattie's ford, devoting to it about ten years time. The preface bears date: Ellango, Beattie's Ford, N.C.. 1st July, 1851."

(two lines unreadable) ... at my wifes death of four hundred acres to fall to John my son and a tract of land that lyes above William Beatties land that John Beatty Senor formerly lived on of one hundred and ninety five acres I leave and Bequeath to my son Thomas W_ another tract of land lying west of my son Williams land of one hundred acres and a tract of land lying on the Beaver Dam creek to be sold to assist in raising money to pay the four youngest girls their parts and I give and bequeath to my well beloved son William a negro boy names Jancy and further I leave and bequeath to my beloved daughter Margret a Negro girl named Fillis: Further I leave and bequeath to my well beloved daughter Marey a negro girl named Linda Further I leave to my well beloved daughter Nancy a negro boy named Isac: and what debts is coming in or due to my estate after discharging what debts is due upon my estate I allow in assisting to raise the youngest girls part and a hors and sadel worth twenty pounds to my daughters Mary and Nancy and leave and bequeath to my daughter Jean the sum of ten shillings and likewise to my daughter Bety ten shillings having before received their full parts, the negores that falls to any of the legatees & the land not to be sold out of the family or disposed of upon any portion: and I doe appoint my beloved wife, Francis McKorkel and my son William Beatty to be my hole and sole executors and I doe ...(unreadable)...disannul all and every the forms Wills or testaments legatees and bequaths and executors by me in any wise before named Willed and Bequeathed rattifying and confirming this and none other to be my Last Will and Testament In Witness here of I have (?) to be my hand and seal the day and year above written.
