About Thomas Darnall
• Note: Born 1713 in Charles County, Md. He remained in Maryland and in his will, written 15 September 1779 and probated 28 June 1790, he bequeathed "all my land together with Negroes and all my personal estate and credits to him (son Thomas) and his heirs and assigns forever". Thomas was delegated to care for his mother Sarah Darnall throughout her lifetime, "who cannot do for herself and is unsound and week of understanding". The estate was not closed out until 1795; after which, Thomas followed his brothers to Kentucky. Because of an error of an early family Historian, while the other sons of Thomas were pretty well traced and their movements and families recorded, the son Samuel was very generally accepted as "believed to have been named William and to have remained in Maryland". The probable cause of this was the fact that he and his children chose to remain in Northwest Virginia after the crushing of the Indian uprisings, instead of continuing on to Kentucky, as did John and Isaac. The children may not be listed in proper sequence.

- *Many sources show that this is actually where Darnall and Darnell split… that other than John, the rest were actually written out as Darnell at birth, whether by lack of good spelling or whatever reason.
