Thomas T. Everett and Thomas J. Everett are the same person. The T and J were apparently mis-read from older scrolled hand lettering and put down in genealogies.

According to some Everett Geneaolgy Notes, THOMAS J. EVERETT (SR) left Georgia after 1819 after Henry Jackson was born and after his first wife died. Exact date is unknown. (One source "The Everett Family Researchers 1994" say that Thomas & Penelope Everett moved to Lawrence County, Mississippi ABT 1813.) THOMAS J. EVERETT moved to the old town of Westville, Mississippi and operated a hotel there, ABT 1824. Apparently the town of Westville became the County Seat of Simpson County back then. THOMAS J. EVERETT was also considered a good "fighter." At some date after that, he married a second time and moved to Alabama where he raised a second family.

According to Dr. John Palmer in 1995, Thomas Everett and wife Penelope Rogers moved to Georgia ABT 1800, and then moved to Lawrence County, Mississippi ABT 1813.

Our ancestors, THOMAS and PENELOPE (ROGERS) appear in western Lawrence County by 1818. They purchased land from the St. Stephens Land Office in 1818 and lived there until moving, for unknown reasons, to Hinds County in 1830. (Taken from "Everett History" website)

THOMAS T. EVERITT (note spelling) moved about 1819/1820 from Montgomery County, Georgia to Jackson County, Mississippi. He is shown as serving on a Petit Jury in Montgomery County, Georgia on July 20, 1916. Son HENRY JACKSON EVERETT was born February 1819 in Georgia and son THOMAS EVERETT was listed on the 1820 Jackson County, Mississippi Census. So the move from GA to MS happened then. Between 1820 and 1828, THOMAS moved from Jackson County to Simpson County, Mississippi when Martha Jane got married. Wife unknown but thought to have died in Jackson County at birth of Thomas T. JR in 1823.

Four children and their dad settled around Braxton, "Old Westville" in Simpson County, Mississippi. Martha Jane married in 1828 in Simpson County to William R. Hinton, but moved back to Perry County where his family was located.

Sometime before 1830 they moved to Hinds County, MS. Estate valued at $3,441 and included 5 slaves. Thomas died in January 1838 in Hinds County, MS,

THOMAS J. EVERETT was in the War of 1812 at age 33, then a soldier in the Civil War -- North Carolina Infantry, 3rd Regiment, rank of Private.

1850 US CENSUS, Stewart, Georgia: there is a listing for: THOS EVERETT, male age 69, B-North Carolina (B-abt 1781) GINNETTE EVERETT, female age 54, B-North Carolina THEOPH EVERETT, male age 23, B-Georgia LOUISA EVERETT, female age 24, B-Georgia PETER EVERETT, male age 20, B-Georgia SUSAN EVERETT, female age 18, B-Georgia ELEANOR EVERETT, female age 14, B-Georgia (Note== not sure as of July 2018 if this Thomas Everett born in 1781 in North Carolina is the same relative or not. Children's names do not match, but since they are older they may have married and stayed in North Carolina.)
