Biography
Thomas Nathaniel Gist was born about 1790 in Virginia. He was the son of Nathaniel Gist and Judith (Bell) Gist.[1]
He was first married about 1813 in Tyler, Virginia to Ann Reed Barbour.[1]
He was married a second time 1 August 1844 to Mrs. Mary "Polly" (Clark) Cox, widow of Wyatt Cox..[1]
He passed away in 1856.
War of 1812
During the War of 1812, Dr. Thomas N. Gist was an assistant Surgeon in the 6th Regiment of Kentucky. He enlisted at Henderson, Kentucky, September 1, 1812. He was discharged February 1, 1813 at Vincennes, Indiana Territory, and detained for a month to take charge of the hospital at Vincennes. He served under Captain Barbour and Colonel P. Barbour.[1] [2][3]
