About Thomas McCauley
This part of the life of Thomas and Eliza McCauley in a sense begins at a farewell function held in the Salisbury Congregational Church on the 11th of March 1873. During the function a book (still in existence) was presented, the wording being as follows; To Thomas McCauley. From his fellow teachers of the Congregational Sabbath School and member of the Congregational Church, Salisbury, on the occasion of his leaving the neighbourhood for Yorke Valley. Signed J. R. Ferguson Pastor 11 March 1873. About six weeks previous Thomas had made a purchase of 145 acres for 145 pounds of Section 124 HD of Maitland (an area recently resumed from a pastoral lease).... (McCauley Pilgrimage and dedication 23/8/1992 - Eulogy W H McCauley) Copy in the Joan Simpson Collection, Tauranga City Libraries.
