About Thomas Speer

Thomas immigrated with his parents, John and Hannah Gormley Speer, and siblings in 1793, first to So. Carolina and then, about 1800, to the Hickory area. They were Scots-Irish Covenenters, seeking religious freedom. He served as a private in the War of 1812. Thomas married Mary Shields 18 Apr 1815, and they had 10 children.
