About Elizabeth Stewart

Elizabeth Speer was born in New Castle, PA, Nov 8, 1825, to Thomas and Mary Shields Speer. She married Alexander Stewart 22 Feb 1852, and they lived in Hickory Township, New Castle, where they had 8 children. Her obituary:

New Castle News: "Good Woman Called to her Last Home" Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, Widow of the Late Alexander Stewart, is Dead. Funeral Service Tuesday.

  Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, widow of the late Alexander Stewart, of Hickory township, died Saturday night at the residence of her son-in-law, S.H. McClelland, 166 Chestnut street.  Mrs. Stewart suffered a stroke of paralysis about four years ago from the effects of which she never fully recovered and it was partly the effects of it that caused her death.  
  She was born in Hickory township 76 years ago, her maiden name being Speer.  She was united in marriage to Alexander Stewart and by the union leaves two sons and two daughters.  The sons are Rev. James Stewart, a missionary at Latakia, Syria, and Prof. T.F. Stewart, of New York.  The daughters are Mrs. Nannie Keys, of Rushylvania, O., and Mrs. S.H. McClelland, of Chestnut street, this city.  The deceased has lived with Mrs. McClelland since the death of her husband several years ago. 
  Mrs. Stewart is also survived by three brothers and one sister as follows:
  James Speer of Michigan; Robert Speer of Hickory township; T.C. Speer of Ohio; and Mrs. Thomas Patterson, of East Brook.
  Deceased early gave her heart to God and has been a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in this city since girlhood.  She was an earnest Christian woman and one who had many friends in the city and county.  Funeral services Tuesday at 2 P.M. in the Reformed Presbyterian Church.  Interment at Neshannock cemetery.
