Thomas Tucker (c1620-1677) and Edy Hentinge of Norfolk Co., VA. Thomas came to VA in 1635 under "contract" to Capt. William Tucker of Elizabeth City., VA. Although some have interpreted the term "contract" to mean indenture, I think it more likely meant that Thomas Tucker, then a teenager, was sent to VA by his parents to live under the care and instruction of Capt. William Tucker. I suspect, but can not prove, that Thomas was likely the son of William Tucker's older brother, Thomas, who lived in London.
Thomas Tucker of London, older brother of Capt. William Tucker. It is known that Thomas had daughters Alice bc1616 (named after his mother, Alice Pelham) and Memory bc1623 as well as a son named Thomas Jr b1614. All three may have ended up in VA. Memory Tucker may have been the Memory Tucker who married John Southern who was an immediate neighbor of Capt. William Tucker at Kiccotan. Thomas Jr. may have been the "indentured servant" who came to VA in 1635 on the Globe and subsequently lived with Capt. William Tucker before marrying Edy Hentinge in 1640 and settling in Norfolk Co.
Keep in mind that circumstantial evidence is all that links Alice Tucker with Memory, Thomas jr. and Thomas Sr. of London. However, brides were hard to find in the early decades of the Virginia colony and "arranged" or "contract" marriages with the English kin of VA planters were among the solutions to the shortage.
