About Tobias Ballot Muller

Rhodes Scholar and superlative talent. He was a staunch nationalist and defender of the Afrikaans language. Author of the book "De kennisleer van het anglo-amerikaansch pragmatisme" (1913) written in Dutch and published by Gravenhage H.P. de Swart. There is a book written about him and he was a minister of religion and was described as a youth leader and tagged as a future leader of South Africa.

"A Nationalist's Confession of Faith" by Tobias Muller "In 1913 and 1914 Tobie Muller, a man of exceptional promise - he died at the age of thirty-three in 1918 - made the first substantial intellectual pleas for an Afrikaner nationalism in Stellenbosch while working as a DRC minister. One was a speech entitled "A Nationalist's Confession of Faith." He received his first degree from Stellenbosch and subsequently refused a Rhodes scholarship, preferring instead to complete his studies in Utrecht in the Netherlands and Edinburgh in Scotland. The speech was widely discussed and later published. It made a nationalist appeal, but also warned against the pitfalls of nationalism. ....." Quoted from the book by Hermann Giliomee entitled The Afrikaners: biography of a people. First published by C. Hurt & Co. (Publishers) Ltd.

Tobie wrote a book entitled: "n Inspirasie vir Jong Suid-Afrika"
