OLD PIONEER DEAD

Three Months Illness Terminates Life of Tollef Peterson on Tuesday Morning.

Tollef Peterson passed quietly away at his home in this village at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning following an illness of dropsical troubles and pneumonia extending over a period of three months. His first sickness was experienced the latter part of December since then he has been confined to his bed almost constantly. His condition because so critical that a month ago he was taken to the hospital at Sioux Falls in the hope that a course of treatment would effect a cure, but Sunday his physicians gave up hope and advised his return home. He was brought to Jasper on Mondays midnight train and died the following morning at 6 o'clock.

Tollef Peterson was born in Norway June 1, 1844, and came to America at the age of 21 years. He located in Clayton county, Iowa, where he was married in 1869. Nine children were born of this union, all of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. Julia Kjorlina, of Wateskewem, Canada, Mrs. Susie Swenning, of Doon, Iowa, Peter T., of Willow Lakes SD, Ole T., of Moody Co. Mrs. Carrie Aaker, of Vienna, S.D., Carl T., at home, Hendie O., Moody County, Mrs. George Loftus, Doon, Iowa, and Miss Teolina at home. The family moved to Moody County 34 years ago where they resided until two years ago, when they moved to Jasper to make their home.

The deceased was one of the pioneers of this section and did his part towards the development of this section. He was a man highly regarded by everyone and his death will be regretted by his old neighbors and friends. General sympathy will be extended the wife and children who are left to mourn his departure.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday) 12 N. at the home and 2 p.m. at Bethania church where the interment will be made. Rev. Swalestuen will officiate.
