James Grover
8th Great Grandfather of
William Warman.

Founder of New York and New Jersey

Mason records the same birth and death information as Hannah's Memorial, however, lists burial at Middletown Baptist Churchyard, Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey. His site has more detailed information about Hannah's two marriages and the children born from those unions

1. 1674 Marriage to Richard Gardiner in Monmouth, New Jersey, British Colonial America.

   1. 1675 birth of Eleanor Gardiner who passed away during 1750.
   2. 1677 birth of Mary Gardiner on June 29. She passed away Mar 31, 1729.
   3. 1678 birth of Joseph Gardiner who passed away December 17, 1746.
   4. 1679 birth of Richard Gardiner who passed away about 1749.
   * 1687 death of her first husband in Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey (on December 3). NOTE: year of death might be a transcription error. Death could have been between 1678 (a common transposition error) and the early months of 1680. A point of interest was that Mason listed Richard Gardiner as issue of both marriages!

2. 1680 Marriage to William Winter in Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey (during Dec).

   1. 1679 birth of Richard Gardiner who passed away about 1749.
   2. 1681 birth of John Winter who passed away August 21, 1758.
   3. 1682 birth of Zeruiah Winter who passed away during 1751.

3. 1685 birth of Rebecca Winter who passed away during 1732.

   1. 1689 birth of James Winter who passed away during May of 1732.
   2. 1691 birth of Andrew Winter who passed away before April 30, 1760”

1645 Willem Kieft granted a patent for Gravesend, Long Island (now Brooklyn, New York City, New York) to Lady Deborah Moody and her associates (including James Grover).

"Wermund Vitre' THERVING" Anglo-Saxon

King Wærmund, Wærmundus

Offa of Angel, also Uffo or Uffe, was the (possibly mythical) 4th-great-grandfather of Creoda of Mercia, and was reputed to be a great-grandson of Odin. Whether historical or mythical, Offa was the son of Wermund, and the father of Angeltheow.

He was the most famous hero of the early Angles (Anglii in Latin). He is said by the Old English poem Widsith to have ruled over Angel, and the poem refers briefly to his victorious single combat, a story which is related at length by the Danish historians Saxo and Svend Aagesen.

Offa is said to have been dumb or silent during his early years. His aged and blind father, King Wermund believed him to be a simpleton and in order to preserve his son's position as king had him marry the daughter of Freawine (a neighbouring warlord/king) so that Freawine would assist Offa when he became king. However, the plans did not come to pass, as Freawine was killed by a marauding Viking warlord (a Swede called Atisl). Wermund subsequently raised Freawine's sons Ket and Wig as his own. The two would eventually cause great dishonour to the Angles when they ambushed Atisl in a forest as he walked alone and slew him. The surrounding peoples began to mock the Angles, accusing them of cowardice and dishonour. Eventually the neighbouring Saxons decided that Wermund was too weak to resist their requests for him to surrender his kingdom, and they sent their emissaries to Wermund's court. There they proceeded to mock the blind man, prompting Wermund to challenge their king to a duel — but the king stated that he would not fight a blind man. It was then that Offa regained his speech, and revealed that his silence had been caused by the great dishonour involved in Atisl's death. He promptly challenged the prince of the Saxons and one of his champions to a duel in order to regain the Angles honour.

Offa's combat took place at Rendsburg on an island in the Eider River, and Offa succeeded in killing both his opponents. According to Widsith, Offa's opponents belonged to a tribe or dynasty called Myrgingas, but both accounts state that he won a great kingdom as the result of his victory. A somewhat corrupt version of the same story is preserved in the Vitae duorum Offarum, where, however, the scene is transferred to England.

It is very probable that the Offa whose marriage with Modþryð, a lady of murderous disposition, is mentioned in Beowulf, is the same person. (This story also appears in the Vitae duorum Offarum, though it is erroneously told of the later Offa of Mercia.) Offa of Mercia was a descendant of Offa of Angel. It is probable from this and other considerations that the earlier Offa lived in the latter part of the 5th century.

Single combat Offa is said to have been dumb or silent during his early years. He promptly challenged the prince of the Saxons and one of his champions to a duel in order to regain the honour of the Angles.

Offa's combat took place at Rendsburg on an island in the Eider River at Fifeldore/Monster-Gate, and Offa succeeded in killing both his opponents.

Other Offas It is very probable that the Offa whose marriage with Modþryð, a lady of murderous disposition, is mentioned in Beowulf (lines 1949 and 1957), is the same person. This story also appears in the Vitae duorum Offarum, though it is erroneously told of the later Offa of Mercia, a descendant of Offa of Angel A corruption of King Wermund, an ancient name which occurs in the Genealogy of the Kings of Mercia.

Colonial Ancestors of Anne Arundel, MD

Stephen Warman I was born on 24 Jul 1603 in Nominy MD.

Stephen married Elizabeth Harris (1612-1636) on 14 Feb 1626 in St Michael Parish, London, England. They had the following 5 known children: Elizabeth, Stephen, Judith, John and Alice Warman.

Stephen married Susanna Pillston (1614-1650) in London, England on June 21, 1637. Stephen was 34 years old, and Susanna was 23. Susanna's parents are not known at this time. (London, England, Extracted Parish Records about Warman, Stephen Pilston, Susanna Text: 21 Jun 1637 Warman, Stephen & Pilston, Susanna Book: Book 19 Collection: London: - Calendar of Marriage License Allegations, 1597-1648)

Stephen and Susanna Pilston Warman had the following 10 known children: Stephen II, William, Humphrey, Edward, Susan,

Robert, Benjamin, Ann, Prudence and Katherine Warman.

Stephen Warman II was born in London, England and was baptized in the St. Michael Parish in London, England on 12 August 1638. He was the son of Stephen Warman (1603-1649) and Susanna Pilston Warman.

There is a confusion in this family because first Stephen Warman Sr. was married to Elizabeth Harris (1612-1636), and they had a son by the name of Stephen. This Stephen was baptized on Dec. 11, 1631 and died in 1635. His mom died a year later, then Stephen remarried Susanna Pilston. In 1638, Stephen and Susanna had a child by the name of Stephen Warman.

Stephen married Dorothy Beall in London, England. Dorothy was the daughter of John Beale (1604-1674) and Jane Priestley Beale (1604-1676), Stephen and Dorothy moved to Westmoreland County, Virginia. On 27 March 1663 Stephen was granted 750 acres in Westmoreland County, Virginia (Same County where President George Washington was born).

Later Stephen and Dorothy settled in Anne Arundel County, Maryland where their son, Stephen Warman was born

Stephen Warman was born in 1670 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was the son of Stephen Warman (1631-1695) who was born in London, England and Dorothy Beall Warman (1638-1685) who was also born in England.

Stephen married first Sarah Watts (1679-1700) in 1695 at All Hallows Parish in Anne Arundel County, MD. Stephen was 25 years old and Sarah was 17 years old. Sarah was the daughter of Francis Watts (1650-1711) and Sarah Beall Watts (1659-1734).

Stephen and Sarah had the following children: Stephen, who was born on 16 Nov. 1695, Francis was born on Feb. 20, 1697 and Mary was born in 1699.

Sarah was buried Feb. 13, 1700 in All Hallows Church yard. Stephen married second: Esther or Hester) (Gassaway) Gross on July 2, 1704 at All Hallows Parish. Esther was buried on Nov. 12, 1733 "under the roof of the old church". Stephen's 3rd wife was Mary Parish. They were married on March 16, 1735 at All Hallows Parish.

Stephen was in Anne Arundel County by Oct. 11, 1696. He came to own 50 acres of Bessonton, originally surveyed Nov. 3, 1659 for Thomas Besson on the west side of Roade River. In right of his wife, Hester (widow Gross), daughter of Nicholas Gassaway, he held 100 acres called Town Hill, originally surveyed on Dec. 8, 1659 for Edmund Townhill. He also owned many more acres of land in that area

"Wermund Vitre' THERVING" Anglo-Saxon

'King Wærmund', Wærmundus

'Offa of Angel, also Uffo or Uffe', was the (possibly mythical) 4th-great-grandfather of Creoda of Mercia, and was reputed to be a great-grandson of Odin.

Single Combat

Offa is said to have been dumb or silent during his early years. His aged and blind father, King Wermund believed him to be a simpleton and in order to preserve his son's position as king had him marry the daughter of Freawine (a neighbouring warlord/king) so that Freawine would assist Offa when he became king. However, the plans did not come to pass, as Freawine was killed by a marauding Viking warlord (a Swede called Atisl). Wermund subsequently raised Freawine's sons Ket and Wig as his own. It was then that Offa regained his speech, and revealed that his silence had been caused by the great dishonour involved in Atisl's death. He promptly challenged the prince of the Saxons and one of his champions to a duel in order to regain the honour of the Angles.

Offa's combat took place at Rendsburg on an island in the Eider River at Fifeldore/Monster-Gate, and Offa succeeded in killing both his opponents.

Other Offas

It is very probable that the Offa whose marriage with Modþryð, a lady of murderous disposition, is mentioned in Beowulf (lines 1949 and 1957), is the same person.
