About Westley DeHaven
Westley DeHaven was born in 1796 in Gainsboro, Frederick County, VA to William DeHaven and Sarah Doster. In 1816 at the age of 20 he married Louisa A Fisher. She was born in 1799 in Frederick County, VA. Her parents were Barak Fisher and Martha Hoge. William and Louisa had the following six children: Martha T DeHaven 1817 - 1858 Barak DeHaven 1819 - 1894 Reuben Eli DeHaven 1822 - 1879 Rhoda DeHaven Aston 1824 - 1904 David Westley DeHaven 1829 - 1858 Thomas W DeHaven 1833 - 1919
Westly DeHaven and his sons were farmers in Frederick County. In the 1850 and 1860 Census, his real estate property was valued at $4000. During the Civil War, Frederick County, located at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley, was the site of many battles between Union and Confederate armies.
In the 1870 Census, Westly, retired, and Louisa are residing in the household of their daughter Mary Campbell and her husband Steward, a farmer, and their six children. Westley died at the age of 74 and was buried in the Back Creek Quaker Cemetery in Gainesboro, VA. His tombstone is below left. Louisa lived to the age of 81 and is buried in the same cemetery. Her tombstone is below right.
