About Willemtje Fockens
notes
In Carl Boyer, III's published compilation, "Ship Passenger Lists: New York and New Jersey (1600-1825)" [Westminster, MD: Family Line Publications, 1978] on page 123 is a list of people who sailed on 15 April 1660 on the ship "De Bonte Koe" (the Spotted Cow). Among them are
- "Focke Jansz, farmer, from Drenthe, wife, and seven children, ages 19, 17, 13, 11, 9, 3, and a nursing child."
In the volume "Long Island Source Records", page 105, is an abstract of a record published in Liber D of the Flatbush Town Record, page 180. Obviously the transcriber had a hard time reading the hand-written given name Willemptje:
"Agreement as to property left by Mellentien Vockes. Dated December 6, 1669. Gerret Snedeker heretofore husband of Mellentien Vockes, decd, by whom he had Jan Snedeker, Maergryta [Margrietje] Snedker, Criestiaen [Christian] Snedeker, has married Eelsien Tuenessen [Elsje Tunis Nyssen]."
