In the appendix of the Journal

of the Legislative Council of NSW in 1885 he was shown as owning

1,620 acres of land known as 'Mount Royal' and 'Roaring Bull'. He was

the owner of 16 horses,170 cattle,180 sheep and 15 pigs. Most of his

family also followed farming in the Bridgman area. His wife Mary after

his death, stayed on in the Bridgman area and up to the time of her

death had resided in the area for over 50 years. In part of her

obituary she was described as 'winning and retaining the esteem and

respect of a large circle of friends and was a lady with many

estimable qualities of the mind and heart.' William was the fifth

child and the second son of a family of 12 children. He had 4 sons and

3 daughters,all of whom followed farmingpursuits.All the 7 children's

christian names started with the letter 'A'.All the children were born

at Goorangoola except Alister who was born whilst William and Mary

were living at "Roaring Bull".(A stone wall and a cheese press still

mark the site of the old home.) Sarah Andrews (grandmother) acted as

midwife to the birth of all children except Alister, who was delivered

by Hannah Ryan. William was a wonderful horseman and extremely

successful financially, raising and selling Durham shorthorn cattle and

buying properties in the Mt. Olive,Mt.Royal and Camberwell areas.

Although he died at the young age of 56 years he was able to give his

four sons a property and the daughters inherited a homestead at

Camberwell and "The Old Queen Hotel",which was situated close to and

north of St. Clements Church of England Church. Three generations of

William's family are buried at St. Clement's Camberwell.
