1856: ARLEDGE, Wm (by Shff) to James Harrison, Sr. Fairfield County SC, Book UU p. 527, 200 acres Thorntree Creek1840 census, Lowndes Co, AL (p. 247): William ARLEDGE (age 20-30), with wife aged 20-30 and son under 5. Also had huge slave holdings for such a small, young family: 9 male and seven female slaves. Male slaves were one under age 10, 4 ages 10-24 and 2 ages 24-36; while they had 1 female slave under 10, 2 ages 10-24 and 4 ages 24-36. This shows that this William Arledge had great wealth, since he had a large investment in slaves as property. Neighbors were Tatum and Irwin families; Jesse Ivy a few houses down.
