Will of John Gill, dated 9-26-1788, probated 6-22-1790 Mercer Co., Virginia, Dist of KY, names William Bishop of SC and Richard Ellis and Rober Lethgan his executors in SC. Brother Wm. Gill and John and Thomas Pelham executors in KY. See p. 65, KY Pioneer and Court Records, McAdams. I have proved no connection to any of the William Bishops of Spartanburg, but there is the possibility.

There is great confusion due in large to some terrible DAR records, which have mixed up two (maybe three) different William Bishops.

This may be the William Bishop whose property was probated in Spartanburg, SC, record # 858? Wish I could get those records.

I have a hunch that there is some relationship to the William Bishop who was born abt. 1768, probably in SC, and was in Lawrence Co., MS, and died in AR. The William in Lawrence Co. named one of his children Edmund/Edmond.

Thus I wish to dispose of my property both real and personal and I hereby appoint my sons Elijah and George Bishop joint exer's of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 20th day of Feby in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six. Wit: John Grambling William Bishop Wm. Carver James Ragan Recorded 28 April 1836 Jno. Bomar O.S.D.

Michael Bishop via Mailande Schrum: William Bishop filed a Declaration with the Court of Pleas in Spartanburg District, South Carolina, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress of 7 June 1832, providing pensions for certain Revolutionary War Veterans. In this declaration he stated: "I was born in Granville County North Carolina, on 26 March 1760, and believe I have the record at home." ... More about when he entered the service, etc. ... Witnesses to his application were John Grambling and Edmond L. Bishop, and William Trimmier. (John Grambling was a Clergyman residing in Spartanburg District. The above declaration was certified by the Clerk of the Court Elisha Bomar, on 11 May 1833.)
