About William Richard Brandon

Richard was born sometime before 1751 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of Unknown Brandon. He married Nancy Agnes Kincade in the 96th District of South Carolina circa 1773, Nancy was a lifelong resident, Richard was from Pennsylvania. According to the Southern Campaign American Revolution Pension Statement, Richard Brandon was an officer and private soldier in the Army of the Revolution from the commencement of hostilities until he was killed in June 1781. He entered service as a private horseman in Capt. Jolly's Company, Co. Brandon's Regiment and was afterwards promoted to rank of Sergeant or Quartermaster in his brother Col. Brandon's Regiment until he was killed as Brandon's defeat in Union Dist., South Carolina. He was in the battles of Blackstock's, Kings Mountain, Cowpens, the Snow Campaign and the Florida Campaign. He served under Capt. Benjamin Jolly and became a sergeant or quartermaster under Col. Brandon, his brother. He served three hundred ninety days as a horseman from May 7, 1780 under Lt. Samuel Otterso, Col. Brandon and Gen. Williamson. He was in the Snow Campaign, the Florida Campaign and the battles at Kings Mountain, Blackstock's Plantation, and Cowpens.
