Biography

William Croasdale of Newah, Yorkshire passed away 29th of 11th month 1666 and was buried the 31st at Settle Meeting of Friends, Newton, Yorkshire (specifically, the smaller Bolland meeting). His wife Elizabeth died 18th of 4th month 1672 and was buried the 20th next to her husband at Settle Meeting.<ref>McCracken, George, Welcome Claimants Proved, Disproved and Doubtful, Welcome Society of Pennsylvania, Vol II</ref><ref>Patterson, Mary Sullivan, Quaker Emigrants to America, Swarthmore College</ref>
It is highly probable that they were the parents of the emigrant, Thomas, though other parentage and lineage has been suggested. In all of the suggested lineages Henry Croasdale of Newah who died 1595 seems to be the common ancestor agreed upon.<ref name="Cleaver">Cleaver, William Jessup, Ancestry of Allenn Grinnell Cleaver and Martha Irene Jessup and 172 Allied Families, Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1989, pp 328-9</ref>
