William Cuninghame, 8th Earl of Glencairn

William Cunningham, 8th Earl of Glencairn (1575–1630) was a Scottish politician.

The son of James Cunningham, 7th Earl of Glencairn by his spouse Margaret (d. January 1610), daughter of Sir Colin Campbell of Glenurquhy by his spouse Catherine née Ruthven, William succeeded his father in 1630 but enjoyed the honours for a short time, dying himself in October that year (Oct 1631)

He married about 1609 to Lady Janet Ker, 2nd daughter of Mark, 1st Earl of Lothian and Margaret Maxwell. They had three sons and five daughters:

1. William Cunningham, 9th Earl of Glencairn; born about 1610; married (1) (contract dated 5 Apr 1637) to Lady Anne Ogilvy (died Jan 1660/61), 2nd daughter of James, 1st Earl of Findlater and Elizabeth Leslie; married (2) Lady Margaret Montgomery (born 20 Feb 1616/17, died 27 Jan 1664/65), eldest daughter of Alexander, 6th Earl of Eglinton and Anne Livingston. William died at Belton, Haddington on 30 May 1664; buried at St Giles Kirk, Edinburgh. => descendants by first marriage
2. Lady Elizabeth Cunningham; born 7 Nov 1611; married Sir Ludovic Stewart of Minto
3. Alexander Cunningham; born 8 Apr 1613
4. Colonel Robert Cunningham; married Anne Scot, daughter of Sir John of Scotstarvit => descendants. He was Usher to King Charles II.
5. Lady Jean Cunningham; married John Blair of Blair
6. Lady Margaret Cunningham; married (1) David Betoun of Creich; married (2) ? Chisholm of Crombie
7. Lady Marion Cunningham; married (1) James Ogilvy, 1st Earl of Findlater; married (2) Alexander Fraser, Master of Salton. Marion died in 1661 =× no descendants.
8. Lady Anne Cunningham, did not marry
