In Chowan Co., NC deed records on Dec. 1702 Will Early with free consent of Eliner my wife to Thomas Gilbert, assignment of mentioned sale.

William Early first came to the Colonies, when George Morris and William Lane, received 2500 acres Rappahannock County, Virginia on July 20,1662 for transporting 50 persons of which, William Earle was one. This was on north side of the river on a great branch of Rappahannock Creek.

This was in the same county, where John Beverley had inherited land from his father, Maj. Robert Beverley in 1686. There William Early married Elinor before 1670, when his oldest child, John was born.

William Early and wife, Elinor, removed to Chowan District North Carolina, where: "William Early (sic) of Craven, Palatine, and ye rest of the True and Absolute 1 ORDS PROPRIETORS of Carolina to Coll. Thomas Pollock--Apr. 1697 for ye transportation of 1 person for every 50 acres, 640 acres in Chowan Prect. at ye mouth of Old Town creek, joining the Long Branch with privilege of hunting, hawking, fishing and fowling excerpting 1/2 of all Gold and Siler mines. /s/____Archdale, esquire Governor. Councilors: John Dale, Daniel Akehurst, Francis Toms, Samuel Swann, Henderson Walker, William Glover, Clerk."

"On October 1, 1700, William Early of Chowan Precinct bought from Will Hooker for a valuable consideration, 300 acres on the west side of Chowan river in Rockcohock Neck. All houses, orchards, gardens etc. we bind ourselves in the penal sum of 20 #. Reg. October 29, 1700.

On March 17, 1701/2, Will Early bought 272 acres west side Chowan River from Richard Booth and his wife Elizabeth.

Will Early and wife Elinor, to Thomas Gylbyrd . Interest in land; December 1, 1702".

William Early was a tithe collector for St. Paul's Episcopal Church in 1703.

On March 27, 1704, Margaret Early, his daughter, is a witnesses to a land deed in Chowan and the next entry on July 4, 1704, when Will Early and wife Elinor, to Jon Beverly, 100 acres lying on the Indian path to Petty Shore. By this document, we know that John Beverley married Margaret Early between these two dates.

On this same date, March 27, 1704, Will Early and wife Elinor, to Henry Sutton, to son-in-law, and our daughter Sarah. 272 acres west side Chowan River.

William Early and wife Elinor, to Peter Evans. 255 acres land adjoining Colonel Pollock; September 7, 1706. No record is found of William Early after this date, he must have died in 1707.

His wife, the widow Early is mentioned in the 1710 North Carolina/Virginia boundary survey. At this date, the boundaries had not been established for North Carolina.

Elinor Early made her will November 2, 1732 and it was probated May 2, 1734; grandson Thomas Sutton, grandson James Curlee, granddaughter Sarah Sutton, granddaughter Mary Dale.

William Early is a Supplemental ancestor, verified and approved by Colonial Dames of 17th Century.

Children of William Early and Elinor Unknown are: Margaret, John, Sarah who married Henry Sutton, a daughter married Curlee and last daughter married a Dale.
