Death Notice from "The Maitland Mercury and Hunter River General Advertiser" of Wednesday 6 September 1854:

"At his residence, Dingo Creek, Manning River, on the 29th August, after a lingering illness, which he bore with Christian resigna- tion, William Johnston, Esq , aged 77 years. He is deeply regretted by all who knew him, and has left a large family and a numerous circle of friends to deplore their loss."
