On 5/3/1768, George Washington purchased Lee (a teenager described in Washingtons account book as Mulatto Will) from the widow of owner Colonel John Lee of Westmoreland County, Virginia- "sixty one pounds and fifteen shilling"

Also purchased was William`s brother Frank.

*Washington refered to William as: my servant or my fellow, but never my slave (Billy Lee)
