About William Macomber, II

William Macomber (1645-1711) — (Bygone Days Volume 1.314.00)

William Macomber (1645-1711) is the first McOmber Patriarch to be born in the New World of America. William was born in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony, in New England in America, on 18 March 1645/6. [16] (Note that counties were not created in Plymouth Colony until 1685, and Plymouth Colony was merged into the Province of Massachusetts in 1691). His parents were William Macomber (1610-1670) and Priscella Ursulla Thomas Macomber (1618-1635).

In 1672, 27-year-old William married 27-year-old Mary Randall (1645-1711) in Dartmouth, Plymouth Colony, in New England. Mary was a Mayflower descendant. William and Mary were the parents of 10 children, including John (1687-1723). William and Mary became members of the Society of Friends (Quakers) later in life. William died at age 66 in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Province of Massachusetts, in New England, on 2 July 1711.

William Macomber was a cooper by trade. 18-28 May 1665, James Cooke of Plymouth, Massachusetts sold to William Macomber, Jr. of Marshfield, Massachusetts, one fourth of a share of land at Dartmouth, given to him by his deceased father, Francis Cooke.

The lot mentioned was in the present town of Westport, Massachusetts, and embraced what is now a part of the village of Westport Point. It was bounded easterly by the main road and westerly by the west branch of Westport River. This original farm of one hundred and forty or more acres has been considerably divided, but part of the same was (in 1908) still in the possession of the Macomber family, being owned by Charles F. Macomber.

The Will of William Macomber, dated 10 April 1711, and probated 2 July 1711, names his wife Mary and all his children whose births are found in the town records of Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
