WIlliam had six children, as did also his brother, Samuel, who married Jane McKee attention,was in later years, given to farming, which they achieved success; they were both representative citizens.
Hugh McKee was born in July, 1788, on the homestead, in Nittany Valley, and having, at an early age, been left without a mother's protecting care, was bound out to George Woods, which periode of service continued for seven years.
About the year 1820, having been released from further service to Mr. Woods he removed to Mifflin county, and WAS EMPLOYED by David McKee, who resided in Ferguson Valley, Granville township, of that county. Mrs. McKee subsequently secured a lease on the farm of the latter, and at, the expiration of the seventh year, rented the farm of John Oliver, in Bratton township, of the same county, which, after cultivating for three years,he purchased. Preferring his early location in Ferguson valley, he in 1839, purchased the David McKee property, now owned by his son George McKee, where he resided until his death, on the 25th of August, 1870.

EDWARD C. McKEE, a master plumber and well known business man of Harrisburg, Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, is a descendant of a family which has been resident in the state of Pennsylvania for a number of generations, they having come originally from Ireland.
(I) William McKee, great-grandfather of Edward C. McKee, emigrated from Ireland to this country and settled in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. He married and had the following children: William, see forward; Hugh; Samuel; Mary, married a Mr. Crooks; Sarah, married a Mr. Bergstresser; and Anna, married a Mr. Glenn.
(II) William McKee, eldest child of William McKee, was born in Center county, Pennsylvania, November 12, 1794, died October 9, 1845. He was by trade a painter and the owner of considerable farming land at Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. He married, November 25, 1824, Sarah Clyde, born in Center county, Pennsylvania, January 13, 1804, died January 9 1845. She was the daughter of James C. and ___ (Calhoun) Clyde, both natives of Ireland. James C. Clyde emigrated from Ireland and settled in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, where he carried on a painting business in association with a partner. He paid a visit to Ireland in order to marry, and when he returned to Lancaster county found that his partner had sold the business and decamped with all the proceeds. This was unfortunate news for the young couple, but they removed to Center county, Pennsylvania and there he took up the trade of weaving and by his thrift and industry amassed a comfortable fortune. William and Sarah (Clyde) McKee had children: 1. Mary C., deceased, married a Mr. Ingram. 2. William B., a minister of the gospel, now seventy-three years of age and residing in Rock Island, Illinois, retired, married, and had the following named children: Anna Mary, married Professor ___ Halsey, president of Whittier College, Salem Iowa; William Norton, deceased; Ethelyn C., married _____Cassebeer, principal of the Collegiate Institute at Genesseo, Illinois; Elizabeth P, a twin of Ethelyn, married a Mr. Moorhead, of Aledo, Illinois; Harry B., on the staff of the Boston Daily Record, Boston, Massachusetts; Frank O., resides in Los Angeles, California; Walter, a book-keeper in Chicago, Illinois; and Helen A., married a Mr. Goldsmith of Rock Island, Illinois. 3. James T., see forward. 4. Sarah Ann, deceased, married a Mr. Thompson. 5. Joseph Marshall, deceased. 6. Susan M., married a Mr. Corbin. 7. Margaret Jane, married a Mr. Stoner. The two last named live in Humboldt, Kansas.
III. James T. McKee, third child and second son of William and Sarah (Clyde) McKee, was born in Center county, Pennsylvania, October 24, 1837. His early years were spent on the farm and he acquired his education in the public schools of his native township. For a time he was a boatman on the Pennsylvania canal, but abandoned this and entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, with which he was connected for a period of forty years. He rose through the various grades of service until he became engineer in the fast passenger service on the middle division. He was a most careful and competent engineers, conscientious and faithful in the discharge of the duties which he various positions entailed, and handled many of the best trains of the company. Some years ago Mr. McKee was struck by a trolley car and so badly injured that he was compelled to abandon active service of any kind. He resides at No. 1718 North Third street, Harrisburg, which he owns in addition to a considerable amount of other city property. He is a member of the Presbyterian church, and a supporter of the Democratic party.
He married (first) December 29 1859, Sarah Snyder, died May 5 1867, and they had children: 1. William B., born November 9 1860, died December 3 1892. 2. Howard S., born January 4 1862, died September 25 1903. He was an engineer in the passenger service of the Philadelphia division of the Pennsylvania railroad. 3. James T., Jr., born March 31 1865, resides in Harrisburg and is engineer in the Philadelphia division of the Pennsylvania railroad. He married the widow of George Diffenderfer. James T. McKee, Sr., married (second) January 12 1868 Mary Jane Roth, both September 10 1844, died July 29 1884, buried in the cemetery at Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; they had children: 1. Edward C., see forward. 2. Bertha May, born Jun 20 1871, died March 11 1872. 3. Sadie E., born January 20 1875, married George Keyser of Harrisburg. James T. Sr., married (third) Margaret Shaw, widow of Daniel Seitz and they have one child, Joseph Marshall, born March 29 1894.
(IV) Edward C. McKee, eldest child of James T., and Mary Jane (Roth) McKee, was born in Harrisburg, Dauphin county, Pennsylvania January 23 1870. He was a student at the public schools of the city until he was fourteen years of age, when he was apprenticed to P. H. Vaughn to learn the trade of plumbing. Here he remained for six years and then worked in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for two. He returned to Harrisburg in 1895, and established himself in the plumbing business at No. 1626 North Fourth street, where he was in possession of an excellent trade for seven years. He then purchased the plumbing business of P. P. Bradley, and later than of George Simmons, and finally his present business, comprising store and residence property at No. 1342 North Third street in 1901. His business is one of the largest in general plumbing and gas fitting in the city, and he bears an excellent reputation in every respect in business circles. Besides this property he owns many other valuable city properties, and a farm of one hundred and seven acres in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, purchased in 1903 upon which he has made many substantial improvements. There are twenty acres of valuable hard wood timber land on this farm. Mr. McKee is a member of the Presbyterian church and is an ardent Republican.
Mr. McKee married October 21 1895, Sarah A. Boyle, born in Venango County, Pennsylvania Aug 12 1873, daughter of Daniel F. and Mary E. (Stoner) Boyle, the former died February 10 1905, aged seventy-two years; the latter died July 14 1906 at the age of sixty-six years. They had children: James T., Lettier R., Charles S., Harry R., Lizzie M., Sarah A., mentioned above; Julia A., and Daniel P. The Boyles were of Irish descent and members of the Catholic church. Mr. and Mrs. McKee had children: 1. James C., born March 7 1897, died April 19 1898. 2. Edward C., Jr. born October 28 1899, died March 22 1901. 3. Albert W., born July 6 1902.
