Born either 1710 or 1711. Second son of Colonel Henry Smith and his wife Anna, daughter of the Rev. Thomas Shepard, of Charlestown, Mass., and grandson of Chief Justice William Smith, of St. George's Manor, Brookhaven, Long Island. Henry Smith was buried in the old burial ground on Little Neck, later called Strong's Neck, Setauket. The will of Henry Smith, Jr., merchant, of Brookhaven, dated 25 Mch 1747, proved 9 Apr 1748, mentions his wife, Ruth, his son, Charles Jeffrey, under age, and his daughters, Martha and Elizabeth.
