William Abner Strickland, I

Not the same William Strickland

William was the 2nd son of Mathew Strickland (son of Mathew) by his wife Ann Braswell, born about 1707 in Isle of Wight VA, died in Edgecombe County NC after 28 June 1770. He was married but her name is not known. Possibly their son was Matthew Strickland (1752 - 1828) who married Mary Perry.

7. ii. WILLIAM STRICKLAND, b. in Isle of Wight County about 1707, m. UNKNOWN about 1740 and d. in Edgecombe County, North Carolina after 28 Jun 1770

There is no record of William3 having children. John mentioned above is one possibility. A second is Mathew4 Strickland, a great-grandson of Mathew1 whose father cannot be definitively identified at this point. Mathew4 had dealings with Edward Moore, the same Edward Moore to whom William sold his mill in 1765.

He married Martha Brown Abt 1723 at of Bertie, North Carolina . Martha Brown was born at Isle of Wight, Virginia Abt 1706 daughter of William Brown and Martha Braswell .

They were the parents of 7 children:

1. Elias Strickland born Abt 1725.
2. David Strickland born Abt 1728.
3. Jacob Strickland born Abt 1731.
4. Abraham Strickland born Abt 1735.
5. William Strickland born Abt 1739.
6. Levin Phillip Strickland born Abt 1743.
