William Stuart Reyburn, U.S. Representative
Reyburn was a U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 17, 1882; attended the Hill School, Pottstown, Pennsylvania; was graduated from Yale University in 1904 and from the law department of Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; was admitted to the bar in 1908 and commenced practice in Washington, D.C.; member of President Taft’s party which visited the Philippines, Japan and China in 1905; served in the State house of representatives from 1909 until May 25, 1911, when he resigned; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Joel Cook and served from May 23, 1911, to March 3, 1913; declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1912; resumed the practice of his profession in Washington, D.C., and subsequently retired from active business pursuits; resided in Aiken, Aiken County, South Carolina, and later moved to his estate “Black Hill,” Old Lyme, Conn.; died in New Haven, Connecticut, on July 25, 1946; interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He was elected as a Republican to represent Pennsylvania's 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Congressman Joel Cook, and served from 1911 to 1913. He was the son of Pennsylvania Congressman and Philadelphia Mayor John E. Reyburn.
On June 10, 1911, Reyburn married Georgie Fontaine Maury and together they had two sons. Georgie divorced Reyburn in 1918 on the basis of "intolerable cruelty." He was married a second time to Martha Gardner.
He was an Episcopalian and a member of the Racket Club in Philadelphia, the Freemasons and the Union League.
