About William Bryan Wilcoxson

William 'Red' Bryan Wilcoxson

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/91908738/william-wilcoxson

William's nickname of "Redhead" or "Red" has been tradition is some branches of the family and it is said that it was to distinguish him from his son William Wilcoxson who married Catherine and was known as "Blackhead".

Further information may be found at stipak.com/willcockson/WulfeckBook/WulfeckPg40.htm.

An inventory of his estate can be found here also. He died intestate but the inventory is given in full because it reveals many facts about the tools and equipment needed by men and women in the pioneer days of Kentucky when forests had to be cleared, roads built, fences, barns and houses constructed, stock and crops raised, cloth woven inthe home and food cured, brined or preserved for winter use.

Several slaves were also mentioned in the inventory!

Son of John Willcockson, Sr. and Sarah Boone.

William was their youngest child. His father made his last known land deeds to William on February 26, 1798, in Rowan County, North Carolina.

He married Nancy Ann Sparks about 1777, in Rowan County, North Carolina. Son, Isaac, was born August 24, 1778. (Howard County, Missouri Cemetery Record)

William "Red" Wilcoxson got his nickname presumably for having red hair. Nicknames such as "Red or Redhead," and "Blackhead," in the Wilcockson/Wilcoxson families, helped to identity close family members named "William."

William "Red" left his home in Green County, Kentucky, to settle in Barren County, Kentucky. He died intestate between February 29, 1828, the date of a deed made to son, William Jr., and November 6, 1828, the date his inventory was presented in Court in Barren County, Kentucky.

It is assumed this was the location of his home, and that he was buried here with wife, Nancy, who outlived him. There is no cemetery record or marker. A list of descendants buried here can be found at the Green County Library.
