Profiles

Chattanooga Memorial Park was established in 1894 and was known at the time as White Oak Cemetery. In 1925, additional property was acquired and the name was changed to Chattanooga Memorial Park. Prior to becoming a cemetery, Chattanooga Memorial Park was a site of Civil War action. Major General William Tecumseh Sherman of the Union Army hid with four federal divisions in the hills of the property before they launched an attack on Missionary Ridge. The Battle of Missionary Ridge was fought on November 25, 1863, as part of the Battles for Chattanooga during the Civil War.

This cemetery is known colloquially as Red Bank Cemetery.
