Richard Wilson was married to Rachel Strain (1773-1851), daughter of Andrew Strain, Sr. and his wife Mary (Burgin?) Strain, about 1794 in North Carolina (either Iredell or Burke County). Together they have nine known children. It has been said that Richard's parents were John (b. 1745) and Mary (b. 1747) Wilson, but this has not been documented. The 1850 Schedule 3 (Mortality Schedule): Persons who died during the year ending 1st June 1850 in Macon Co., NC, lists Richard Wilson (p. 1, line 8) as having died in the month of April, age 82, occupation farmer, died of pneumonia after 14 days of illness. The schedule states that he was born in Surry County, NC, but it is believed that he was born in Ireland. It was his wife that was born in Surry County.
